Patterson Mill Hike 2/18/17
Guided Hike at Patterson Mill and Hollow Rock Nature Park
Sat Feb. 18 – 10 am
Please Join us on a hike exploring the Patterson Mill site just upstream from where Erwin Road crosses New Hope Creek. We will also examine old roadbeds in the area and the new Hollow Rock Nature Park which opened last Summer. The hike will be led by Stewart Dunaway who has written The History of Patterson Mill as well as other books on the history and geography of this area. We will meet in the parking area of Hollow Rock Nature Park which is off of Erwin Road near the New Hope Creek bridge at 10 am on Saturday, Feb. 18. Please consider carpooling with others since the lot has limited spots.
2016 Annual Report
Turkey Run 2016
Four mile course laid out by Doug Tilden
Registrants: 151 Runners 142
On November 12, 2016, the Turkey Run was held for the 33th year. Begun in 1981, the run was held annually in early December except when the Forest was closed because of Hurricane Fran and a freak early December ice storm with widespread loss of power and multiple fallen trees. More recently, the race has been held in November. Occasionally a bit warm for running, usually the weather has been clear, cool and crisp as it was on November 12th. As a sports reporter, Randy Young, commented, “I can report the results, but I cannot report the warm comradery and the smell of freshly baking biscuits.” Many, many thanks to the donors that provide the prizes, to our volunteers, and to all the runners who participated in the 2016 Turkey Run. The event raised about $1,800.00.
